Dr. Eric Smith, DO
Dr. Eric Smith is an Ashland, Kentucky native and a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon who has been in practice since 2006. He graduated Cum Laude from Marshall University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
He graduated in the top third in his class from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001. He did his surgical internship and residency at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, with Ohio University. During his training, his hospital was named the first Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in the state of Ohio. He was awarded chief resident for an unprecedented two years. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Smith specializes in advanced laparoscopic, minimally invasive robotic general and bariatric surgery. He is the chief of surgery and medical director for the bariatric program at Georgetown Community Hospital (GCH). He is a Center of Excellence designated bariatric surgeon and practices at Georgetown Bariatrics and Advanced Surgical Services. Dr. Smith and the surgical team at GCH have been designated as the only Mentor Case Observation site for general and bariatric robotic surgery in Kentucky. Dr. Smith has performed approximately 2,000 robotic cases and is the highest volume robotic general and bariatric surgeon in Kentucky.
